Tips from a Chiropractor on Maintain a Healthy Back
A healthy back can mean a healthy life. You use your back for virtually everything you do. Once you experience your back giving out or lower back pain, you realize just how much you depend on your back for mobility and function. Investing in a healthy back is an investment in your future and health.
So, how do you keep you back healthy? As a chiropractor, there are many things that I recommend.
Here is a list of back tips:
- Exercise – Keeping your body limber and stretched is a way to ensure that it does not become strained and tense. There are several back stretches (see video below) that can be performed to ensure your back is in the best shape possible. One great exercise is called the reverse fly, with 5-8 pound dumbbell weights. With knees slightly bent and legs shoulder-width apart raise your arms out to the sides and as far up as possible and then lower your arms for 10 reps. The exercise above is a glute bridge that helps strengthen your gluteus muscles which in turn helps stabilize your lower back.
- Eat Well – If you are overweight and unhealthy, your entire body suffers. Fat is extra weight that your core and back have to carry around, which can cause a strain on your back and put undue pressure on your joints. Keep your meals light and healthy and stay active. If you’d like help losing weight, I have a weight loss program that works.
- See a Chiropractor – Keeping your back in proper alignment is always an important way to ensure your back is in working order. Come visit our office and see us to improve proper joint function. Through back manipulation, the spine can be aligned and the musculoskeletal structure can be corrected to eliminate nerve pain and muscle spasms. If needed, we use MRI’s and X-rays to determine the best course of action for you as an individual.
If you are experiencing back pain, there are natural remedies that can help. Cryoderm gel is one product that we use after performing back manipulations to provide muscle tension and joint pain relief. It contains boswella, peppermint oil, eucalyptus, MSM, ilex, menthol, and arnica. The cooling sensation that it provides is relaxing and comforting to tight muscles. Our practice also uses Relax Already by Stone Age Wellness to help with muscle relaxation and back pain. It contains valerian root, lemon balm, cramp bark, chamomile flower, and passion flower. This product can truly relax the body and provide a sense of calming and relief.
Living with back pain can be extremely hard to deal with. Dealing with this issue and visiting our clinic can truly help eliminate the back pain you are experiencing. By using natural remedies and spinal manipulation, you may find the answers you desire through chiropractic care. However, if our course of treatment is not producing desirable results, there are other surgical options that may need to be investigated. We will do our best to ensure that you are given a proper referral to continue on with your quest for back pain relief.
