What to Expect at the Examination
Those seeking relief from back pain often turn to chiropractic services. Their back pain may be caused by a variety of conditions from accidents, sports injuries, muscle strains, and certain muscle conditions. Chiropractors also serve those with neck pain, headaches, and stiffness of legs and arms. They will use the power of proper alignment of musculoskeletal structure to allow the body to heal itself without the need for drugs and/or surgery. This process is the most natural way to combat chronic pain, without the need for medication that can cross-react with other medication you may be on. These chronic pain medications can also be very addictive, which is a huge problem in society today. Some states have even banned prescription of these drugs for certain procedures.
What does Chiropractic Service include?
When entering a chiropractic office, you may be curious as to what services they provide and how they will treat your pain pain. The first step will be to find a reputable chiropractic physician. Dr. David Spitz at the Chiropractic Health Center of Bristol is an excellent choice for those in the northeast.
Once you have selected a chiropractic physician, you will meet with them for a consultation to get a history of your condition and determine if chiropractic care is the right treatment for you. This consultation is similar to your annual doctor’s visit. We will get a detailed history of your condition, any surgeries you’ve had, any medication you take, and any other problems you are experiencing. We will want to get detailed information about your current condition and what types of pain you are experiencing.
In our office, we find it particularly important to discuss your lifestyle, including stress level and diet to help determine what actions may be contributing to your pain, but also to help your health in a holistic manner. Some individuals have chronic pain due to their actions on the job. There are certain techniques and exercises that can be performed to help ease the strain that certain jobs have on the body.
Following the patient history, a detailed examination will be performed, including; the necessary orthopedic tests, ranges of motion and some neurological tests to help determine the cause of your problem. Based on the history and examination, we may want to send you for x-rays or an MRI or even another specialist. Most of the time, this isn’t necessary (although if you are not improving, we will refer you for the appropriate testing or specialist)
The next step involves developing a treatment plan to address your whole body. This plan usually involves the process of chiropractic adjustments, where a gentle force is used to improve range and quality of motion. At our office, we will often set up a nutritional plan or workout plan with exercise moves to ensure that the chiropractic manipulation ¹, aka chiropractic adjustment, works effectively. This whole body approach is highly effective and necessary to get to the root of the problem.
This process can help treat back pain, neck pain, and even headaches. The body is not a cluster of separate mechanisms and that is why the central nervous system is so important. The nerves must travel through the spinal cord to transmit through every part of the body. If the joints are disrupted, subluxation occurs. This is when biomechanical integrity combines with altered physiological function. These joint disruptions can be connected to many other physiological conditions, which is why your chiropractor will want to get a full assessment of your health to determine exactly where the issue is located and what systems it is affecting in the body.
