Chiropractic – the Safe Alternative to Medication
The first thing that many people do when they feel back pain or neck pain, or especially a headache, is take an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory), such as ibuprofen, to alleviate the pain. These NSAIDs however, only work temporarily and can have many negative side effects on different organ systems. Over 16,500 people a year die from complications such as GI bleeds caused by NSAID usage. An alternative, safer, and more permanent solution to chronic pain such as back pain, neck pain, migraine, and tension headache is to seek chiropractic care.
Negative Effects of NSAIDs
Some of the negative effects that NSAIDs can have, include; indigestion, allergic reactions, stomach ulcers, dizziness, etc. It is also not recommended for the elderly, as well as pregnant women to take these types of medications, as they can cause further complications to these at risk individuals.¹ Instead of temporarily stopping the pain and possibly causing other conditions, it is a much safer alternative to see a chiropractor for things such as chronic headaches or back pain.
How Can Chiropractic Help Pain?
Chiropractic care is covered by most insurance companies, and works to treat the cause of the pain, not just mask the pain. According to the American Chiropractic Association, spinal and neck manipulation can be extremely effective and safe in the treatment of patients who suffer from chronic headaches and back pain.² Chiropractic treatment works by correcting vertebral subluxations, slight misalignments in the spine. Over time, the patient will notice a decrease in the number of headaches and level of pain felt. By following a plan with an experienced chiropractor, people can have a more enjoyable and healthy life, rather than being reliant on different medications with various types of side-effects.
At the Chiropractic Health Center of Bristol, it is our goal to get people with chronic pain back to achieve optimal health.
